New Study Reveals Superman and Blue Moon as Michigan’s Favorite Ice Cream Flavors This Summer

A new study by Fruity King reveals America’s favorite ice cream flavors based on search data, highlighting distinct regional preferences across the country.
The research used Google Keyword Planner to analyze the number of monthly searches on a state and national level between July 2024 and June 2025 for ice cream flavors. The search combinations used for the analysis were “[flavor] ice cream,” “[flavor] ice cream recipe,” “how to make [flavor] ice cream,” “how to make homemade [flavor] ice cream” and “[flavor] ice cream near me.” Rankings have been created based on the most searched flavors in each state and across the US.

Neapolitan is America’s most popular ice cream flavor, with 79,985 monthly searches on average nationwide, and appearing at the top in 20 states. California leads the nation in searches for the flavor, with 13,176 searches each month, which is the highest volume for any flavor in any state. Florida follows with 5,347 monthly searches, while New York is next with 4,875.
The classic vanilla is in second place, with 74,018 monthly searches on average across the US. Pennsylvania is the state searching for vanilla as its favorite flavor the most, with an average of 2,706 searches each month, while New Jersey (2,308) and Virginia (2,068) follow.
Mango is next, with an impressive 57,747 monthly searches, despite not being the top flavor in any state. The flavor showed strong popularity in states with warmer climates, ranking second in Florida and Texas, with 4,885 and 6,707 monthly searches, respectively.
Rocky road ranks fourth, with a total of 47,763 searches every month on average across the US. The flavor is both Arizona’s and Pennsylvania’s third-most popular ice cream flavor, with 1,499 searches and 1,685 searches.
Superman ice cream,
which is a colorful blend typically featuring blue, red, and yellow swirls, is in fifth position, with an average of 45,081 searches every month. Michigan has the highest search volume for the flavor, with 4,774 searches, while Ohio (2,463) and Indiana (1,601) are next.
Spumoni, an Italian frozen dessert featuring layers of different flavors, is sixth in the list, with an average of 43,350 monthly searches. The flavor shows the strongest popularity in the Northwest, ranking first in Oregon and Washington with 1,548 and 2,448 monthly searches, respectively.
Chocolate is the seventh-most popular ice cream flavor in the US, with a total of 42,976 searches each month on average, despite not appearing in any state’s top three flavors. It only features as Arkansas’ fifth-most searched flavor, with 335 searches.
Strawberry-flavored ice cream follows in eighth place, with 39,619 monthly searches. The flavor is particularly popular in Oklahoma, where it ranked third with 657 searches each month on average.
Ube ranks ninth, with 36,112 searches each month on average for this purple yam-based ice cream. Hawaii stands alone with Ube as its top flavor, receiving 1,037 monthly searches on average, but it is Nevada’s second-favorite flavor, with 903 searches.
Moose Tracks, which is a vanilla base with fudge and peanut butter cups, completes the top 10 ranking, with 35,865 monthly searches. The ice cream dominates in New England states, being the top flavor in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.
Other notable flavors
Vermont is the only state where maple-flavored ice cream ranks first, with an average of 313 searches each month. This preference aligns with the state’s reputation as America’s leading maple syrup producer.
Wisconsin residents favor Blue Moon ice cream above all others, making 2,344 monthly searches for this Midwest specialty flavor that features a distinct blue color and fruity taste.
Nebraska is the only state where Butter Brickle appears in the top flavors, ranking third with 353 monthly searches on average for this toffee-based treat.
Wyoming residents make the fewest ice cream searches overall, with their top flavor, vanilla, receiving just 105 monthly searches on average.
North Carolina uniquely has pistachio as its third most-searched flavor, with 1,912 monthly searches, one of the few states where this flavor ranks in the top five.
Connecticut is the only state with banana as its most searched ice cream flavor, receiving an average of 923 searches each month.
