SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (Sept. 3, 2025) – Matz Injury Law, a personal injury law firm based in Southfield, Mich. offering a unique contingency fee structure, has received a Best Family-Led Law Firm award in the inaugural list presented by Michigan Lawyers Weekly magazine. The program celebrates generational law firms and the impact these family-led businesses have had across Michigan. Matz Injury Law was founded by Steve Matz in 1978, and he now runs the company with his son Jared Matz, the managing partner. The partnership recently announced more than $10 million worth of savings to clients it serves through its unique reduced fee model: clients pay 22 percent of their financial award compared with the normal charge of 33 percent. “Matz Injury Law was founded by Senior Partner Steven J. Matz on the principle that there was a better, more compassionate way of practicing law than what he observed in the industry,” said Michigan Lawyers Weekly. “The firm’s evolution reflects a commitment to client-focused innovation. During its early years, the primary challenge was maintaining operations while building a reputation, often taking lower-value cases to ensure sustainability for when significant cases arrived. This experience led to a fundamental shift in approach, with the firm embracing unconventional practices that better serve clients. Most notably, Matz Injury Law has progressively reduced their contingency fees multiple times over the decades, settling on a 22% rate rather than the industry standard 33%.”

The magazine emphasized the company’s community involvement,

such as sponsoring little league teams, supporting fundraising initiatives, and providing pro-bono services to charitable organizations. Steve Matz contribution to the legal profession was also highlighted: his service on the Committee on Character and Fitness and the Michigan Attorney Discipline Board which help maintain professional standards and determine appropriate disciplinary measures. Steve Matz is also included for the 12th year in the list of Michigan Super Lawyers and was inducted into the Michigan Lawyers Weekly Hall of Fame earlier this year.

“I am very proud to have established a legacy of service to our clients and commitment to the legal profession. I am thrilled that my son continues to serve accident victims with caring and compassion,” said Steve Matz. “The opportunity to help injury victims through the worst time in their lives is a privilege and one I have never taken for granted.”

Further emphasizing the family aspect of his law firm, Steve Matz said he also appreciated that his daughter, Rachel Matz, who works for the company part-time as a social media strategist, had found ways to convey the company’s unique message of lower fees, to prospective clients.
