If you’re a mom, you’ve probably noticed that you’re missing from most family photos because you’re either the one taking them, or you’re avoiding being in them because you don’t love how you look on camera right now. And that’s a very common thing – life gets busy, you’re tired, your hair is doing something strange again, and suddenly you realise there are hundreds of photos of the kids and maybe a handful with you in them. Getting comfortable with having your photo taken again might sound hard, but it can be done, and it’s well worth it, so keep reading to find out more.
Start With The Bits You Can Control
When you’re rushing out the door most mornings, spending ages getting ready just isn’t something that’s going to happen, but little things can help like having a good top that fits nicely or a quick swipe of something on your lips so your face looks a little more awake, or brushing your hair instead of sticking it up in a messy bun, and so on. These little tweaks take seconds, so you’ll have time to do them, and if someone does happen to want a photo for any reason, you’ll be much more prepared. In the end, half the battle is not being caught off guard anyway.
Fix The Things That Bother You
Everyone has one feature they’re totally fixated on in photos, and perhaps for you, that’s your smile, your skin, the way you look tired, or whatever else it happens to be. And if those things are the reason you don’t want to be in photos so much, it makes sense to fix them so they’re no longer an issue.
Some moms finally decide to get that haircut they’ve been putting off for so long, for example, and others book a facial or try some new type of skincare. And for some, it could be something a bit more specific, like sorting out dental issues they’ve been self-conscious about for a while. You’d be surprised how common it is for people to look into the best veneers or similar treatments because they want their smile back.
Start With Casual Photos
The trick to feeling confident in photos again is to not wait for the big moments when you really need to be in a photo, the ones where there’s only one shot, and so on, and instead take some silly photos with the kids on a random afternoon at home or in the garden.
These are great because you’ll be having fun and the results might be better than you think they’ll be. But at the same time, you can carefully experiment with lighting and angles so that when the time comes, you’ll know how and where to stand, how and where to look, and you’ll end up with photos you actually love.
Your Kids Want You There
This is something all moms need to hear—your children don’t care about your hair, skin, or clothes – they care that you’re with them in the photos so that they can look back and have some wonderful memories of good times you spent together.
So maybe it’s time to get in the photo even if you’re not all that sure you’ll like the result, because being there is better than hiding away and not giving your children the memories they’ll want one day.
