A new study has revealed where being a NASCAR fan is the most and least affordable.

The study of the most and least expensive places to be a NASCAR superfan was done by Westgate Events and looked at ticket pricing data across 90 NASCAR events in 23 states. This covers, but is not limited to, the NASCAR Cup Series, O’Reilly Auto Parts Series (formerly Xfinity), and the Craftsman Truck Series. For each state, the average of the lowest available ticket prices across all events was calculated to determine the most and least expensive places to watch a race.
In fourth place is Michigan. Among three events in Michigan, the average lowest ticket price is $45. The cheapest available ticket in the state is $24, while the highest priced tickets are upwards of $500.
New Hampshire comes out on top as the most wallet-friendly state to be a NASCAR fan. Hosting two events at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, the average lowest ticket price across all events sits at just $37. The lowest possible ticket for an event in New Hampshire is $20, making it the joint most financially accessible venue in the entire dataset.
Georgia is the second most affordable state for NASCAR fans to go and watch a race. Two events are held at EchoPark Speedway in Hampton with an average lowest ticket price of $38 across these events.
Three events are held at Dover Motor Speedway in Delaware, including the NASCAR Cup Series All-Star Race, with an average lowest ticket price of $42, making Delaware the third most affordable state for NASCAR fans. For Delaware fans looking for resale tickets, they’re expected to pay among the highest rates in the country, with the highest listed resale ticket costing $6,215.
In fifth place is Pennsylvania with an average lowest ticket price of $48. The lowest priced tickets are available from $41, making it one of the most accessible venues in the Northeast.
At the other end of the scale, Connecticut ranks as the most expensive state to attend a NASCAR event, with an average lowest ticket price of $162.
Ohio is the second most expensive at $114, followed by California in third at $112.
Discussing the findings, a spokesperson for Westgate Events commented: “The inflation of ticket prices for any event, far beyond just that of NASCAR, is headline news right now. Many Americans simply cannot afford to do the things that they really enjoy due to the rise in ticket prices.
“NASCAR has always had a family-friendly culture around it, so maintaining affordability for fans that often come with all their friends or all their family is crucial. For many NASCAR fans, this study will highlight where you can watch these amazing races without needing to spend a lot of money.
“Interestingly, North Carolina is the sixth most affordable state too with the average lowest price of a ticket being $53 across the events hosted there. Maintaining affordable ticket prices is a top priority for many NASCAR fans who want to enjoy the thrill and excitement of going to watch a race without needing to compromise financially.”

Methodology:

Ticket pricing data was sourced from SeatGeek (seatgeek.com/nascar-tickets). The dataset covers 101 NASCAR events across 23 US states and 34 unique venues; 90 events had active pricing data. Event types include the NASCAR Cup Series, O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, Craftsman Truck Series, and other NASCAR-sanctioned events (ARCA Menards, Monster Trucks, FANZONE, etc.). State rankings are calculated as the average of the lowest available ticket price across all events in each state.
