Jamie Daniels Foundation to Host Celebrity Roast Honoring Detroit Red Wings Legend Chris Osgood Saturday, Aug. 29, at MotorCity Casino Hotel

The Jamie Daniels Foundation will host an unforgettable night of laughter, community, and purpose at its signature fundraising event, the 2026 Celebrity Roast of Chris Osgood, three-time Stanley Cup champion and Detroit Red Wings legend, on Saturday, August 29, at the MotorCity Casino Hotel (2901 Grand River Ave. in Detroit). Now in its fifth year, the event, hosted by longtime Detroit sportscaster John Keating, will support the nonprofit’s mission of helping young people and families across Michigan prevent and overcome substance use disorder by supporting collegiate recovery initiatives, school-based education programs, compassionate clinical care and parent resources.

Jamie Daniels, son of Lisa Daniels-Goldman and Ken Daniels, Detroit Red Wings play-by-play announcer,

died tragically 10 years ago on Dec. 7, 2016, at the age of 23, after ingesting a lethal dose of a synthetic opioid that included a mix of heroin laced with fentanyl seven months into his recovery journey. Out of their unimaginable loss, Jamie’s parents founded the Jamie Daniels Foundation two years later in 2018 to ensure Jamie’s legacy will be defined through helping others with substance use disorder know they don’t have to face this challenge alone.

“Time has passed, but the love and the ache remain just as present as we carry Jamie with us in our memories, our work, and the hope we offer other young people and families,” said the Daniels family. “Our promise has always been to honor Jamie by helping others, and every ticket sold, sponsorship secured, and contribution to this fundraiser helps ensure families never have to face these challenges alone.”

Registration begins at 5:30 p.m.,

with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and a silent auction starting at 6 p.m. Dinner and a live auction begin at 7 p.m. and the hilarious roast celebrating one of Detroit’s all-time hockey greats is at 8:30 p.m. The panel of roasters are Kris Draper, former Detroit Red Wing player; Darren Pang, TNT/Chicago Blackhawks analyst; Neil Little, former NHL/AHL Philadelphia Flyers goaltender, and Jim Ralph, retired professional hockey player. The Jamie Daniels Foundation currently supports collegiate recovery programs at 11 Michigan colleges and universities,

providing guidance, coaching, peer support, sober community spaces, and academic help to more than 197,000 students, nearly 40% of Michigan’s college population, and has invested more than $1 million in collegiate recovery programs as well as more than 60 scholarships to college students in recovery. The Foundation partnered with Wayne State University and University of Michigan researchers on a study exploring the experiences of parents, caregivers, and young adults affected by substance use which will become a digital resource to improve communication, reduce stigma, and strengthen family support. The Foundation was instrumental in establishing the Adolescent Addiction Recovery Clinic (AARC) in Troy, and continues to invest and collaborate with schools, community coalitions, healthcare providers, and research institutions to strengthen existing systems while expanding access to prevention and recovery resources.
