Resort Wear Beyond the Resort: Why the Vacation Wardrobe Is Becoming a Year-Round Affair

Resort Wear Beyond the Resort: Why the Vacation Wardrobe Is Becoming a Year-Round Affair

As fashion moves beyond quiet luxury, Wrap Up by VP founder Valerie Perez shares why versatile silhouettes, bold prints and destination-inspired dressing are extending summer style into fall.

As summer winds down, wardrobes traditionally begin their seasonal shift from lightweight dresses and resort wear to fall layers. However, with temperatures staying warmer longer and women looking for more versatility from what they buy, the end of summer no longer has to mean the end of the vacation wardrobe.

After seasons dominated by beige,

neutrals and the restrained aesthetic associated with “quiet luxury,” fashion is embracing a more expressive mood built around color, print and personality, Resort wear is moving beyond the beach, pool and hotel suite and finding a place in the year-round wardrobe.

For Valerie Perez, Moroccan designer and founder of luxury resort, spa and leisurewear brand Wrap Up by VP, the shift reflects a broader change in how women approach both travel and personal style: they want pieces that feel special enough for a destination but versatile enough to wear long after the trip ends.

“Some of the pieces we love most are the ones we discover for a vacation, so why should we wear them for only a week or one season?” said Perez. “Resort wear can move beautifully into everyday life. A long caftan can become an evening look and a printed dress can transition into fall with the right layers. Luxury today is not only about how something looks; it’s also about how confident it makes you feel and how effortlessly it fits into your life.”

That versatility comes as consumers continue to rethink the volume and longevity of their wardrobes.

According to the Public Interest Research Group, the average American purchases 53 new clothing items per year. Extending the life and wearability of existing pieces offers an alternative to treating clothing as disposable or strictly seasonal.

The changing wardrobe also coincides with a move toward more expressive fashion. After seasons dominated by beige, neutrals and the restrained aesthetic associated with “quiet luxury,” color, print and personality are finding their way back into the conversation.

Perez sees that shift as particularly suited to resort wear, a category historically influenced by travel, art, architecture and a sense of escape. Wrap Up incorporates bold florals, tropical toile palm prints, colorful stripes and destination-inspired prints into relaxed silhouettes designed to move between settings.

“Women want to have fun with fashion again,” Perez said. “There will always be a place for beautiful neutrals, but color and print bring an emotion to clothing. They remind you of a destination, a mood or a moment. That sense of escape doesn’t have to disappear just because summer is over.”

For transitioning resort wear into fall,

Perez recommends focusing on styling rather than season. Lightweight dresses can be paired with knits, denim jackets or closed-toe shoes; caftans and kimonos can become layering pieces; printed pajamas can move beyond the bedroom when separates are styled individually; and chemises can take on a new look with cowboy boots, sheer tights or outerwear. Introducing richer textures and seasonal accessories can give favorite warm-weather pieces new life as temperatures begin to change.

The same approach is influencing what women pack for travel. Instead of building a wardrobe around a single destination, travelers are looking for versatile pieces that can be styled multiple ways, serve different purposes throughout a trip and remain wearable long after they return home. Three-in-one maxi dresses, infinity dresses, and long chemises are among the styles designed to move easily between destinations, occasions and seasons.

“It’s really the end of the ‘vacation-only’ wardrobe,” Perez said. “Women want pieces that can take them from breakfast at a resort to the pool, dinner, a flight home and then back into their everyday lives. When something is comfortable, beautiful and adaptable, you naturally find more reasons to wear it.”

Wrap Up by VP reflects this approach with a collection of dressesrobessleepwear, caftans, chemises, and other lightweight pieces designed to move between travel, resort and everyday life. With new prints and silhouettes inspired by destinations and a sense of escape, the collection embraces a style that is comfortable, versatile, effortlessly sexy and expressive.
