Pontiac Head Start Students to Celebrate #WorldKidneyDay with Regie – Learning How to Eat Healthy and Exercise

“National Kidney Foundation of Michigan’s Regie’s Rainbow Adventure ® to educate students on how to gain long-term healthy habits.”

 

Who: As part of World Kidney Day, the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan has arranged to surprise students at Pontiac Head Start school with a visit from Regie, the broccoli superhero from Regie’s Rainbow Adventure ®, on March 9, 2017 from 9 – 10 a.m. Students, ages 3 – 4, will meet Regie and learn the steps toward gaining healthy eating and exercise habits.

What: The National Kidney Foundation of Michigan’s Regie’s Rainbow Adventure ® program is a no-cost, 7-week nutrition and physical activity program where students follow Regie, the broccoli superhero, to different islands based on the colors of the rainbow. He meets new fruit and vegetable friends and earns his power stripes by eating healthy and being physically active. Each week children will travel with Regie to a new island, read a new story, try a new fruit or vegetable and bring healthy information home to their parents. Why: World Kidney Day is an annual day for creating and reinforcing a healthy lifestyle for healthy kidneys. The Regie’s Rainbow Adventure ® curriculum provides activities that reinforce literacy, language development, mathematical skills, scientific understanding, creative arts, social emotional development and physical health and development through a series of seven interactive books entitled The Adventures of Regie Rainbow. Through the Regie program, sites have seen:

·         Increased fruit and vegetable consumption by children who participate

·         Increased amount of physical activity by children who participate

·         Decreased daily screen time by children who participate

When: Regie, the broccoli super hero, will appear at the Regie’s Rainbow Adventure  ® program at Pontiac Head Start school on Thursday, March 9 from 9 – 10 a.m.
