Don’t let your friends, colleagues, customers, or partners go unrecognized. Now is the time to nominate champions of energy waste reduction for the 2017 Governor’s Energy Excellence Awards.

The Governor’s Energy Excellence Awards celebrate outstanding achievements by recognizing people and organizations that have taken firm, meaningful actions to stop energy waste. Last year, the energy solutions that were honored ranged from installing energy-efficient, state-of-the-art heating, cooling and lighting systems to common-sense, lower-cost steps like caulking windows and adding insulation.

“We agree with Governor Snyder that energy efficiency is the best example of a no-regrets policy Michigan can have,” said Mary Templeton, executive director of Michigan Saves and chair of the GEEA Steering Committee. “We also agree that energy efficiency doesn’t mean doing less; it means doing as much or more, but using less energy to get it done.”

Nominations can be submitted online at http://www.mienergyexcellence.org through March 31 with winners to be announced at a celebration in late summer.

“The awards are a forum for sharing best practices and inspiring others to follow the winners’ lead, which is why we want to find the best examples of energy-efficiency projects — whether they are the work of students, farmers, public sector employees, nonprofit organizations, small business owners or major corporations,” Templeton added.

Nominations can be made in the following eight categories:
Innovator of the Year — Recognizes innovation in Michigan’s energy-efficiency industry
Best Communication, Education or Program — Presented to an individual or entity committed to communicating the benefits of energy efficiency
Contractor of the Year — Presented to an energy-efficiency contractor
Best Projects: Residential — Presented to a homeowner
Best Projects: Agriculture — Presented to an agricultural operation
Best Projects: Industrial/Manufacturing — Presented to a manufacturing operation
Best Projects: Commercial — Presented to owners or operators of commercial buildings
Best Projects: Public — Presented to a public sector entity
