Small Business Endorses Bill Schuette for Governor

The state’s leading small business organization, NFIB, today announced that its Michigan political action committee, the NFIB MI PAC, had endorsed Bill Schuette to be Michigan’s next governor.

“Bill Schuette is a candidate who supports and appreciates the important role small business has played in Michigan’s dramatic recovery,” said Charles Owens, state director of NFIB in Michigan.  “Schuette has a strong record of accomplishment as a former state lawmaker, a member of Congress, and as Attorney General. As a lawmaker, his votes were consistently pro-small business, and he has been recognized many times as an NFIB Guardian of Small Business.

As Attorney General, Schuette joined with other states in legal action against the federal government over bureaucratic overreach by the EPA and the US Department of Labor. He also took legal steps when the Affordable Care Act threatened the viability of Michigan employers, small businesses, and family farms.”

Nevin Groce, a business owner, and NFIB MI PAC Board Member said as governor Bill Schuette will move Michigan forward. “Eight years ago, Michigan’s economy was in shambles, but with a small business-friendly governor and legislature, we have been able to turn the business and economic climate around for the benefit of all citizens and workers,” said Groce, owner of ROCG Great Lakes, LLC in Ada. “Bill Schuette is the candidate we need to build on this progress.”

“Our business has been growing and expanding in Michigan, and we want to keep it that way,” said Joe Cozart, President of Teachout Security Solutions in Flint. “We need a governor that will keep us on an upward economic trajectory and Bill Schuette has a track record of small business support, and that is just what we need.”

Schuette is running on a ticket with Lt. Governor candidate Lisa Posthumus Lyons. “Lisa and I have been strong supporters of small and family-owned businesses, and we both have an NFIB voting record to prove it,” said Schuette. “We will build on Michigan’s comeback and take Michigan forward to bigger paychecks and more jobs, and we will do that by working closely with the business leaders at NFIB.

Schuette averaged a 90-percent on NFIB’s Voting Record during his time in Congress and the Michigan Senate. Posthumus Lyons averaged a 91-percent during her time in the State House.

Small-business owners and their employees vote in high numbers and are known for actively recruiting friends, family members, and acquaintances to go to the polls. NFIB will encourage its members to help turn out the small-business vote for NFIB MI PAC-endorsed candidates this year in the November Elections.

For more than 75 years, NFIB has been advocating on behalf of America’s small and independent business owners, both in Washington, D.C., and in all 50 state capitals. NFIB is nonprofit, nonpartisan, and member-driven. Since our founding in 1943, NFIB has been exclusively dedicated to small and independent businesses and remains so today.
