Top 3 Reasons Why I Homeschool My Kids

Top 3 Reasons Why I Homeschool My Kids

Yes, that’s me! I’m a homeschool mom of three kids (girls). It all started in 2011 when I first began homeschooling my preschool daughter at the time. My oldest was a second-grader at a local public school and my youngest was a toddler. Because I had previously worked in the early childhood field for many years, teaching preschool came quite easy for me. Okay, it was a major challenge teaching my own, but you get the idea. 😉 How hard can teaching preschool be right?

Top 3 Reasons Why I Homeschool My Kids In Just a Minute…

Our Homeschool Adventures in 2016!

At the end of the 2011 school year,  I pulled my oldest out of public school and decided it was time to start homeschooling her as well. She had faced bullying in her little life (primarily in 1st and 2nd grades). I knew this was the best option for our family. Did I know what curriculum I was going to use?

Nope, it was all trial and error and learning a lot about myself in the process. I am a very structured person. I had to learn to become flexible if this was going to work, after all, that’s what homeschooling is, to a point in my opinion. I’m all for structure but with flexibility. Yes, you can have both!

After trying all different homeschooling methods through the years we are now in a new place in our homeschool that is perfect for all of us. Previously, we had participated in homeschool co-ops and programs which were all beneficial to their socialization and making friends.

I also taught in these programs (Choir and preschool) which helped me to branch out and meet other homeschool moms. It was a win-win situation.

Now that my girls are older and yes, highly socialized, I found an online accredited/partnership program that fits our family’s needs. A lot of people have a debate about what homeschooling truly is. Homeschool families typically instill their beliefs, etc which I still do, just with added help because I now have a business and have been a college student myself. The online program that we are using offers online grading and on-call assistance while 8th grade and high school offer online teachers with communication with the parents. This has been important to me especially since I have a high school student now. The online curriculum is dated in their dashboards to keep them on track.

Now Onto the Top 3 Reasons Why I Homeschool My Kids (girls)

  1. Flexibility-Like I previously mentioned, I love the flexibility of homeschooling. Because we are a fine arts family (music and dance), this is ideal for our very busy schedules including church involvement as well.  The structure part? My girls do get up at 7 am Monday-Friday and we start school by 8 am with a flexible end time based on dance schedules. For school assignments, they can choose to get ahead or play catch up within the week. It’s perfect! I wouldn’t have it any other way.
  2. Family Trips-Because we can take our work with us wherever we go, we plan many trips around our schedules as we can, including trips up north to our family cabin. We love family field trips as well!
  3. Bonding-This is my ultimate favorite thing about homeschooling. Yes, it can be a challenge to be together all the time, but it’s rewarding and fleeting. Moms, always remember to take time out for yourself. You will need it!

And that’s it! If you have any questions about homeschooling, I would love to answer them. Feel free to ask questions in the comments below. I would also be happy to share about the accredited online homeschool partnership program we are using.
