Get Over Your Mompreneur Guilt
Raising a family can be one of the hardest jobs out there, and it’s not made any easier when you’re juggling a full-time role outside the home too. For many women, the guilt over being a working mom is one of the toughest aspects of parenting, but it doesn’t have to be this way.
While being a Mompreneur can certainly be full-on, you don’t have to be plagued with guilt. To help you overcome your anxieties over being a working parent, take a look at these top tips, and banish guilt now:
Remember what your priorities are
Whether you enjoy your job or not, it’s necessary to keep a roof over your head and give your kids a secure and stable childhood. If you’re a Mompreneur who loves her career, that’s just the icing on the cake!
Ask most people why they work, and they’ll tell you it’s to provide for their family or pay the bills. When you begin to feel guilty over your work schedule, remind yourself why you’re working so hard and who it benefits. While you may get a great deal of satisfaction from your job, it’s also a critical way of covering your family’s expenses and giving your kids a wide range of opportunities.
Find suitable childcare
When you know your kids are well cared for, you can focus properly on your work and even increase your efficiency. Dealing with childcare issues is one of the major bugbears of working moms, so take a proactive approach to find the right daycare or child caregiver. When you have complete confidence that your children are safe and happy, you’ll feel far less guilt when you’re working.
As well as finding a suitable form of childcare…be sure to have a backup plan in place too! If your kids are a little under the weather, for example, they may be unable to attend daycare and you’ll need to find another option. If you have family or friends living nearby, talk to them about whether they would be willing to provide childcare when it’s needed and you can rest assured that you’ll always have another option to fall back on if your usual childcare arrangements fall through.
Make your schedule as flexible as possible
People assume that working for yourself means setting your own schedule and doing what you like when you feel like it. Of course, anyone who runs their own business knows this is far from the truth! However, being a Mompreneur does give you a little more control over your schedule than most. Use this to your advantage and retain as much flexibility as possible.
If you know there are events coming up that you’ll want to attend, get them on your calendar as soon as possible. Concerts, dance recitals, or school plays can be the highlight of your kid’s year but they’re always tricky for working parents to attend. Blocking them off in your schedule well in advance gives you the opportunity to plan your Mompreneur career around family life and enjoy the best of both worlds.
Factor in self-care
Looking after kids and raising a family is a full-time job. In fact, it’s a 24/7 job with no holidays! When you’re working as well, it becomes increasingly difficult to find any time for yourself. If you overlook the importance of self-care, however, it won’t be long until it all gets on top of you.
By making time for a trip to the gym, a run or even a soak in the tub, you can focus on your own wellbeing. Being able to relax and unwind is essential for everyone, even if it seems like a luxury you don’t have time for.
Remember – your kids emulate the behavior they see growing up. By seeing you take care of yourself, they realize the importance of prioritizing their own health, fitness, and emotional wellbeing. It’s never too early to pass this message on, so be open with your kids about your need to take time for yourself and let them learn from you.
Becoming a Successful Mompreneur
Launching your own enterprise can tricky, no matter what your personal circumstances are. As a Mompreneur, you’re certainly going to have a lot of juggling to do to make things work. However, being your own boss and running your own business offers endless rewards. As well as giving your family the financial security they need, the satisfaction of being a successful Mompreneur will ensure your kids have a happy, successful, and hardworking mom to look up to.
