Pain is usually not a good sign. Pain is your body trying to tell you that something is wrong and that you need to get it checked out as soon as you can. However, it’s not easy to determine the source of the pain and there are times where you might just want to relieve it temporarily to help you get through a busy day at work.

Most of us would just reach for typical painkillers. Unfortunately, this medication usually comes with side effects that can actually make us feel groggy, slow, and even worse than before. For example, some people might experience nausea and vomiting when they take medicine, and others might experience drowsiness or slowed breathing which can be problematic for physical tasks in the workplace.

Thankfully, there are a couple of natural remedies that can help you relieve pain. Whether it’s for quickly temporarily relieve or for coping with chronic pain, here are some natural alternatives to consider and why you should try them.

Lavender essential oil

Research has shown that lavender oil could be effective at relieving migraine and headache pains. Studies showed that when compared to a placebo, lavender essential oil was actually more effective at dealing with the pain. It can also be used to help you sleep and even ease anxiety, making it an effective pain-relieving alternative that can be used at night.

However, it’s important not to just ingest lavender essential oil as it can be toxic. Instead, it should be applied topically to the area once diluted with a carrier oil.

Clove

Clove has been used for a very long time to treat tooth pain because it can effectively numb and reduce inflammation due to the eugenol compound which acts as a natural antiseptic.

To use clove effectively, dab a small amount of clove oil onto something like a cotton pad and then apply it topically to the area. If your clove oil isn’t diluted, then you’ll want to mix it with a few drops of something like olive oil before applying.

Alternatively, you can use it as a mouthwash by adding a couple of drops into a small tumbler of water. You may want to adjust the amount of clove to get the desired pain-relieving effect.

Hemp products

Hemp products are the latest addition to pain-relieving alternatives. Companies like BluPeak Botanics offer a variety of hemp-based products that can help with physical discomfort, workout recovery, and also pain.

It usually comes in the form of capsules, but you can also purchase oils that can be placed under the tongue. These take a while to act, but they’re a great way to deal with chronic pain over a long period of time.

Hemp products aren’t as popular as other alternatives, but they’re slowly growing thanks to more attention being brought to the benefits of hemp and how it can be used in various ways to deal with pain and other difficult conditions that usually require heavy medication that can introduce troubling side effects.
