Students in this day and age may find it more of a challenge when it comes to the demands of studying. This may also apply to finding a job or even attending college in person.

For students who do find the time to hold a low-paying job, most of their money may go to food and expensive accommodations. Unfortunately, many students are taken advantage of in these situations.

Fortunately, there are many options offered to students by most of the best and largest retailers and entertainment providers. While these might not be essential, there are some student must-haves that they can get at discounted prices.

Some of these include:

  • Internet
  • Clothing
  • Computers

The internet is a vital part of a modern student’s life and more now than ever during the pandemic. While clothing is a necessity to all, the active lifestyle of students and the fact that many are still growing means that they may go through more clothing than most. And just like the internet, their own computer might also be a crucial item over the ones provided by many educational establishments.

Safer and More Secure

Given that most student material is accessed online these days and more now because of Covid-19, internet access for your student child is an absolutely necessary part of college life.

Of course, they could use publicly available internet but many of these systems are highly restricted as to what content can be viewed and cybersecurity is a high priority factor.

The good news is that many established ISPs will offer a discount to students which should always be taken up since many student accommodations might have no internet access at all. This means that they could miss out on important information.

Companies such as Sky (the UK only), Xfinity, and BT offer cheap student broadband deals that are more than adequate for their needs. Since some college classes are still online-only, it is a no-brainer to take advantage of these offers.

Surprisingly Generous Discounts

We all know the expense of clothing and fashion and even the least interested in fashion need new clothing from time to time. Additionally, the current trend of social media showing off means that many young people go out of their way to look as fashionable as possible even when at school, college, or work. This has placed an unnecessary burden on students who might already be struggling financially as they seek to look fashionable enough so as not to be bullied online.

It has long been a tradition, however, of some of the world’s most recognized fashion retailers to offer generous student discounts of between 5% and 20% to valid students.

Brands such as H&M, Urban Outfitters, and Levi Strauss & Co. are just some of the excellent brands that do this, regularly offering 10% plus rewards, 10% to 20%, and 10% to 30% respectively, depending on promotions and when you shop.

A Vital Tool for College

Perhaps the most important thing a modern student can have is access to their own computer. Because of the online nature of many classes due to Covid, a laptop or PC is required for accessing schedules, collaborating on projects, and writing essays or dissertations.

This is also a lot more secure than public or even college campus computers. Just recently, colleges across the United States were subject to a mass of cyber attacks by ransomware that steals data and locks devices.

Major retailers such as Argos (UK), Apple, and Target offer discounts on tablets, computers, and laptops for students of up to 20%, which is very generous when you consider the price of a good modern computer.

Be aware that because of the prices involved, some of these retailers are strict and Apple requires registration at the Apple Education Store. Additionally, be advised that tablets aren’t necessarily the best item for college work and a laptop or desktop PC is better suited for this.
