JARC Announces Direct Care Job Fair February 26 – 29 Leading Up to National Caregiver Appreciation Day

Nonprofit serving adults with developmental disabilities offering direct care workers part-time and full-time positions in Oakland County with significant employee resources available.

With more than five million direct care workers supporting older adults and people with disabilities in the US, they are the largest workforce in the country. However, since the pandemic, the need to fill positions in the industry remains high. JARC, a metro Detroit nonprofit organization serving adults with developmental disabilities in metro Detroit, will hold a direct care job fair from Monday, Feb. 26 to Thursday, Feb. 29 for open positions providing direct care to adults with developmental disabilities in several JARC locations throughout Oakland County.

JARC offers a competitive full benefits package, paid time off, a retirement plan, several bonus opportunities, employee assistance programs, and access to several other financial resources. The JARC Direct Care Job Fair occurs during the week leading up to National Caregiver Appreciation Day on Sunday, March 3, an annual date that honors, appreciates and thanks the caregivers who give their time and effort to care for those in need, such as for those people living with disabilities, illnesses, and the elderly.

The hiring event is an opportunity to apply for a position, learn more about the benefits of the job, and meet several key people at JARC as it will take place will take place at nonprofit’s Bloomfield Hills headquarters located in the Max M. Fisher Federation Building (6735 Telegraph Road, Suite 100, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48301).

JARC’s Direct Care Job Fair event will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday,

with part-time and full-time positions available. JARC currently employs 200 caregivers who provide care to 120 adults with developmental disabilities at 45 locations in metro Detroit, including 24-hour care in group homes and independent living settings. Interested candidates may call JARC at (248) 940-2617 or email hr@jarc.org to schedule a job fair appointment and walk-ins are welcome.

Once hired, direct care employees will complete the state-mandated 40-hour paid training at either JARC’s Bloomfield Hills headquarters or Detroit office located within the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue and will be paid for training at a rate of $13.80 per hour.

Both locations have convenient nearby SMART bus stops making transportation easy,

and the JARC Employment and Training Room provides a quiet, private space in which laptops, reliable high-speed internet, headphones, snacks, lunch, and other supplies are provided by JARC to use during training. Training can be completed in as short as a week or conveniently scheduled in installments over a longer period based on the applicant’s availability. Once training is completed, the hourly wage range is $14.75 to $15.75.

Direct care worker benefits are activated after 60 days of employment. After 12 months of employment, employees also become eligible for a grant which provides assistance for financial hardship that they may face when they incur unexpected expenses, such as car repairs, funeral costs and more.
