“Taboo,” The Inside Story of Detroit’s Most Celebrated Nightclubs, Wins Silver Medal in the 2024 Midwest Book Awards.

Book was written, designed, and produced in Michigan, and All proceeds from book sales will benefit children and education.

 “Taboo,” the captivating account of how Detroit entrepreneur Nino Cutraro revolutionized the American nightclub scene, has won a Silver Medal in the 2024 Midwest Book Awards.

For “Taboo,” the Silver Medal was in the category: Design — Interior Design. The book was produced by Written in Detroit, authored by R.J. King, and designed by Jim Van Fleteren. The entire book was written, designed, and produced in Michigan. To date, King, has been awarded a Gold and two Silver medals from the Midwest Book Awards. The Gold was for “Detroit: Engine of America,” while “Grounds for Freedom: Saving Chernobyl,” received the Silver.

Publishers based in the Midwest

are invited to enter the annual Midwest Book Awards competition for excellence in books. The annual awards recognize creativity in content and execution, overall book quality, and the book’s unique contribution to its subject area.

“Taboo” is currently available for purchase and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Variety Children’s Charity of Detroit and the Grammichele Municipal Library in Sicily, to help purchase books for Cutraro’s hometown in Italy.
