Approachable Ways to Make Your Life Healthier

Changing your health is quite the difficult thing already, but when you’ve got a busy family life, a 9 to 5 (and over) to cope with, as well as all the aches and pains that come with getting older, it feels pretty much impossible. So, you fall into pretty unhealthy habits but seeing as they get you through day by day, you don’t dwell on them all too much.
But there comes a day in everyone’s life where they take a look at the way they live, and for quite a few people, they don’t really like what they see. It’s at a time like this that approachable ways to change your health for the better really come into their own!
Approachable means manageable, but not necessarily ‘easy’. However, you’ll have a lot more success with trying out the methods down below than you will be trying to commit to a huge lifestyle overhaul. Baby steps count for a lot more than you think, and progress is the one thing you should be aiming for here.
Want to Exercise? Start Small!
Exercise is regularly undertaken with the idea that you’ll spend a month or so pumping iron in the gym, after which you’ll be able to achieve the results you’ve been dreaming of. You’ll lose all the weight you’d like to, or your resting heart rate will fall to the number the doctor told you it would be better at, and you’ll have done yourself some good!
When those results inevitably don’t come, however, it’s easy to feel disheartened, unmotivated, and to give up on your gym membership entirely. You’re not seeing the numbers you’d like to, despite all the effort you’ve put in, and that can send you right back to square one.
It’s why so many people fail to commit to a long-term fitness routine. But the one thing that could ensure you see success in future? Taking it slow and starting as small as you can! Fitness can very easily ‘plateau’ when you put your all in from the beginning, and while you may see big changes in the first couple of weeks, you won’t see anything else after that.
Starting small will help these changes to carry on over time, and it’s a lot easier to chop and change what you’re doing if it’s not working. You won’t be putting in all that time and effort only to see nothing come of it! You’ll steadily increase your fitness routine overtime, trying new things as and when you want to, and your fitness goals will be far more attainable as a result.
Plus, it’s just easier to commit when you only have to do 15 minutes a day! Work your way up slowly to half an hour, then an hour, and so on. You may not even notice you’re suddenly putting all that time in, but your body certainly will!
Worried About Your Diet? Change One Thing at a Time
Changing your diet all in one go doesn’t work either! You need to replace and/or remove things one at a time. Like indulging in chocolate? You still can; you just need to replace one to two of the bars you eat per week with a piece of fruit!
Concerned About Long Term Health? Try Supplements
Long term health has to be planned for in the here and now. The stronger you feel at your current age, the stronger you’re likely to feel in 10 to 20 years’ time. Of course, your health can take an unexpected change at any time, but that’s something you can’t really plan for.
However, you can commit to helping yourself feel as healthy as possible no matter what happens! And one of the easiest ways to do that, other than the two points we’ve already made above, is to incorporate some supplements into your life. You just have to remember to take a pill or rub in some drops of something, which can easily form part of your morning or nighttime routine.
If you’re concerned about the level of vitamins and minerals you’re getting, supplements can bridge the gap and ensure your internal levels don’t dip down to dangerous numbers. It’s why many people take vitamin D during the winter, when they’re likely to get less sunshine exposure. Not only does this help to eliminate the symptoms of SAD, but it ensures your skin, bones, and muscles keep feeling strong and healthy too.
You can also start using more modern, alternative supplements like carbon 60, which has been shown to be effective at lowering your risk of chronic disease. There are quite a few carbon 60 benefits to go through, so we highly recommend doing some of your own research as well.
Of course, it’s worth it to talk to a doctor about potential deficiencies you may have. They’ll be able to investigate for you, usually via a blood test, to check what’s going on inside your body. If it comes back that you’re low in something, they’ll be able to let you know straight away.
Need a Mental Booster? Start Getting into a ‘Zen’ Zone
Mental health journeys should be undertaken on a regular basis. Mental wellness can change a lot faster than physical wellness, and the more we talk about this, the better! As such, be sure to give yourself regular ‘mental booster shots.
This can be literally anything that makes you feel better; in the same way acts of self-care do. In fact, they can be one and the same thing, even if what you need to do doesn’t feel particularly caring toward yourself!
Doing a deep clean on the kitchen, for example, might not traditionally feel like something caring and boosting, but it’s healthy and will make you feel a lot better.
The thing we recommend most, however? Learning what gets you into your ‘zen’ zone. What can you do that makes you feel good, at ease, and like you’re ready to take on what comes next? For a lot of people this is a breathing exercise, while for others it’s repeating words of affirmation to yourself.
Really, it’s anything that doesn’t take long to do, and can be used no matter the environment you’re in. Get yourself to that Zen place when the anxiety and stress is starting to get to you, and you’ll help yourself to feel a lot stronger in the long run.
Health is a Journey That Can’t Be Rushed
When you go on a health journey, you commit to undertaking long term changes. This requires a lot of effort and resilience over time, but the more you practice these healthy habit changes, the easier they’re going to come to you.
That’s why we need to start them off as easily as possible. While baby steps may not feel like much, they really are just laying the groundwork for you to succeed on your health journey. You’re steadily taking step after step and never needing to take a break because you’ve gone at a pace you can’t support.
As such, be sure to follow the points above on your health journey. Work them to be more specific to you, but make sure you keep at them. The more progress you make, the more you’re going to be proud of what you’re doing and how you’re sticking at it. Commitment to change is a tricky thing for everyone, but when you really do it, you deserve to celebrate it!
