Michigan’s Detroit Metro Wayne County Airport Ranks Among Top 10 U.S. Airports With the Best Operational Performance

A new study has revealed that Detroit Metro Wayne County Airport ranks ninth among the top-performing major U.S. airports.
The research by luxury villa rental Cabo Villa Vegas Dave,
analyzed operational reports for the 30 major U.S. airports via the U.S. Department of Transportation, in the last quarter of 2024. It measured nine main operational metrics: punctuality, airline, weather, infrastructure, security, connections, cancellations, and rerouting, each representing key factors affecting airport performance and reliability. Each metric was scored and totaled to rank the airports from best to worst.
Detroit Metro Wayne County Airport,
situated in Michigan, scores a total score of 66.1/100. The airport facilities deliver near-perfect services, scoring (14.5/15) in on-time performance, (7.8/10) in managing flight cancellation, and (8.8/10) in aircraft’s late arrival.

Methodology
The study evaluated airports based on eight key operational metrics: on-time performance, air carrier delay percentage, weather delay percentage, national aviation system delay percentage, security delay percentage, aircraft arriving late percentage, cancelled percentage, and diverted percentage. Each metric was scored and aggregated to form a total score, which was then used to rank the airports from best to worst.
