With 4,840 monthly searches,

Mexico ranks as the ultimate dream destination for travelers from Michigan. Mexico offers the kind of warmth and color that feels irresistible when winter sets in. From its beaches to its food and festivals, it’s a destination that combines easy sunshine with a strong sense of place – a chance to slow down without feeling far from the action.

In second place comes Italy, drawing 3,440 searches a month. Italy’s pull never really fades. Its food, art, and history are only part of the story – what draws people back is the way it all comes together so effortlessly. Whether wandering through quiet streets or sitting down to a long lunch, it’s a destination that feels timeless.

Ranking third with 2,888 monthly searches,

Greece remains a firm favorite among residents planning future trips abroad. Greece has a slower rhythm that appeals to anyone ready for a break from routine. Its views, food, and welcoming feel make it one of those places where travelers can genuinely unwind – somewhere between nostalgia and discovery.

In fourth place, Japan receives 2,821 searches each month. Japan’s mix of calm and energy makes it unlike anywhere else. Visitors are drawn to how seamlessly it blends the ultra–modern with the deeply traditional, from street food stalls to mountain hikes, neon lights to quiet gardens – every trip feels like a fresh perspective.

Finally, Canada rounds out the top five with 2,787 monthly searches. Canada appeals to those who lean into the colder season rather than run from it. From ski towns to cozy cities, it offers the kind of winter that feels bright and crisp rather than bleak – ideal for anyone who enjoys the outdoors.

David Ciccarelli, CEO of Lake.com, commented on the findings, “With the Christmas holidays coming up, people in Michigan are starting to think about where they’d most like to be – whether that’s somewhere warm, somewhere new, or simply somewhere they can switch off for a while.

“Places like Mexico, Italy, and Greece clearly stand out this year, showing just how varied travel dreams are across the state.”

Methodology:

Search volume data was gathered using Google Keyword Planner. Analysts examined the average monthly search volumes for over 200 travel–related keywords in each U.S. state, identifying the five most searched international destinations by total average monthly searches.
