Disney Pixar’s Inside Out {Movie Review}

I was given the opportunity to pre-screen Inside Out on June 15th with my 12 year old daughter. All opinions expressed here are honest and my own.

From an adventurous balloon ride about the clouds to a monster-filled metropolis, Academy Award®-winning director Pete Docter (“Monsters, Inc.,” “Up”) has taken audiences to unique and imaginative places.  In Disney• Pixar’s original movie “Inside Out,” he will take us to the most extraordinary location of all-inside the mind.

Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco.  Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions-Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling), and Sadness (Phyllis Smith).

The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through every day life.  As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters.  Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house, and school. (DISNEY/PIXAR) This film is rated PG.

My Personal Review

I think Inside Out is fantastic!  Perfect for all ages as young as maybe 3. {There are a few parts that may be scary for little ones like a giant clown and a few intense emotional situations.} The giggles and laughter of all the kiddies throughout the theater was priceless and of course the adults were busting a gut as well.  Inside Out uniquely and creatively magnifies what it would be like inside of our brains with long-term and short-term memory, core memory, forgotten memories, etc.  The characters: Joy, Anger, Fear, Disgust, and Sadness really make you ponder your emotions and what controls it.  In the end, Riley learns that each emotion can be used in a healthy way. It’s a definite must-see!

Watching the film in 3D was icing on the cake.  Prior to the film you get to enjoy a cute little movie short.  I won’t spoil that one.

I loved this movie. It’s so awesome.  I loved the characters, it really made you think about how your brain works.~Kelly, 12.

I look forward to watching it again, but with my entire family this next time. It’s just that good.
