Classic Summer Fun with Tie-Dye!
Summer! Summer season is upon us and that means kids are out of school! While most of us have undergone some changes these last few months with our kids being home with us more than ever, the list of ideas for summer is more important now than ever as well!
Summer is always a great time to enjoy new ideas or even some fun things you have done before. Like many, I am not sure what this summer will hold. If you would have asked me back in March, I would have told you I would be working, my daughter would be enjoying summer camps, and staying at friends’ houses! Now I am home and there are no summer camps. I need ideas and QUICK!
So, I thought back to my time working at camps and have a few ideas up my sleeve. This is an oldie but a goodie and can be done on a budget.
Tie-Dye! I used T-shirts I had already purchased from Jiffy Shirts, a great source for blank shirts. You can get white blank shirts for under $2 each. I had leftover shirts from a project from before. 50/50 blend shirt or cotton works best. 100% Polly shirts don’t work well, all the color washes out.
This is a great project to invite some friends over and do together. In fact, I thought it would be a fun idea for a mini backyard camp.
Tie-Dye can be purchased on Amazon or at a local craft store. Tulip makes a great set.
We set up a table in the backyard. This is best done outside as it can get messy!
Gather your materials: tie-dye, rubber bands, white shirts, and gloves (optional). We also purchased some fabric markers to write or draw with.
Rubber band your shirts. You can roll like a cinnamon roll, scrunch and twist, there are so many ways and there is no wrong way to band your shirt. We let each girl do it however she wanted.
Squirt color and go to town! Another method is to have color in bowls and dip the shirts.
We let the final product dry in the sun.
It was a great day for the 4 of us, no two shirts looked alike, and some fun new shirts to start the summer off.
I don’t know what this summer will look like as plans change day to day, even hour to hour. Hopefully, it will be filled with lots of outside time and hands-on fun. Why not invite a couple of friends over and give it a try! It would be great for a ladies’ night too. My sister and I had just as much fun as the girls!
