Christine Hronec, three-time champion fitness competitor and author of the new book ” Unlock Your Macro Type” shares her passion for physical fitness and the like:

1. Be Direct On The Benefits

Tell your children that engaging in physical fitness is one of the greatest acts of “self-love” they can give to themselves. Explain to them all the benefits of being healthy (more energy, a prolonged life, sharper thinking).

Also, be direct with your kids about what happens if they don’t take care of themselves (mention diabetes, heart disease, and other declines of quality of life).

2. Introduce Sports Early

T-ball, soccer, basketball – sports are a terrific way to get kids excited about fitness. The earlier you get them started, the better. They’ll associate fun with exercise. Also, I would recommend instilling a competitive spirit. Teach your children the joy of winning and the pain of losing so they’ll develop the desire to always improve.

3. Workout With Your Kids

Take them for a run and take them to the gym with you. Lead by example and show them how much you enjoy working out.

4. Make It A Game

“Who can take the garbage out the fastest and who can move the most boxes from the basement” are just two American classic games that encourage movement. Seize every opportunity where a chore or activity can be incorporated with running or lifting. Make fitness a game.
