Pregnancy is a beautiful experience, filled with every emotion you can imagine. You’re goring your baby every minute of every day, and having vivid dreams. It’s easy to get caught up and think that everything is about baby, however, you need to protect your wellbeing. Selfcare isn’t all about pampering either.
Let’s have a look at some easy ways you can exercise healthy self-care during pregnancy yourself:
Nourish Your Body
Food is even more important when you are pregnant. Your choices can keep you healthy, boost your mood, and deliver key nutrients to help your baby grow. Make sure you eat plenty of fruits and vegetables with every meal. Foods such as salmon, avocado, berries, and spinach are great for your baby’s development. Although you aren’t really eating for two, it is still important for you to make sure your appetite is satisfied. Carry nutrient-dense snacks like almonds, grapes, and string cheese in your bag to stay satisfied during long days. You should also try your hardest not to overindulge.
Apart from keeping your diet in check, you should also assist your body as it changes to accommodate the new life growing in it. Pregnancy causes undue stress on your abdomen and lower back. It’s not uncommon for most women to experience back and joint pains, which makes it hard to do simple everyday things. A pregnancy belly wrap may ease some of this pain. It provides support and gentle compression to your body. Using a belly wrap together with a balanced diet will make getting active that much easier. Of course, consult your doctor before using a belly wrap to ensure there’s no harm to you and your baby.
Get Yourself Moving
As you grow during pregnancy your bump protrudes more, so, exercise may be the last thing on your mind, however, the feel-good benefits of doing some physical activity are undeniable. Just 20 minutes of moderate aerobic activity is going to lift your spirits. If you are worried that it may harm your baby, you have nothing to worry about, exercise is good for both of you. Whether it’s prenatal yoga classes, swimming, or other aerobics, they are all considered safe for pregnancy. So is an indoor cycling and running, especially if you were doing it regularly beforehand. Take A Break
You may think that you need to carry on as normal, however, as your bump grows you will soon start noticing some difference when it comes to feeling tired or needing more regular breaks. Whether it’s a nap during the middle of the day or taking an extra sit-down rest while you are out shopping, make sure you listen to your body and baby and get some rest when you need it. It may be more difficult to get comfortable at nighttime so you may want to think about using a pregnancy support pillow for your bump. Spend Time Outdoors
Self-care may start from within, but being outdoors in a natural setting is very beneficial for your health. Spending some needed time in nature’s embrace can lower your cortisol levels and help you to calm your mind during pregnancy and beyond. Whether you take a simple walk around the block or head to a local nature reserve, just breathing outdoor air and being near trees can be really therapeutic, stress-reducing, and calming. All you need is some soft footwear, a picnic, and some good company.
