How to Start a Blog with Bluehost!

Have you ever wanted to start a blog, but just didn’t know how to go about doing it without breaking the bank? There’s definitely a free option, but purchasing a domain (URL) will really help get your blog noticed, much like what you are reading right now here on http://www.michiganmamanews.com.

An example of a free domain would be directly off WordPress.com’s site, for example, wordpress.lindsey.com.  WordPress allows you to blog for free, but you have to use their domain with your blog name.

Free is a good place to start, but eventually, when you grow your content, you want to put it out there and grow your presence especially on Google, etc.

Getting started is fairly simple. Here are a few tips on how to start a blog!

1. Determine the niche you would like to blog about (examples, beauty, fashion, parenting, etc.).
2. The blogging platform I highly suggest is WordPress.org or WordPress.com. WordPress.com like I mentioned previously, is where you can start a free blog and then upgrade accordingly, but WordPress.org is where you install and search for a hosting company. Blue Host is one of the top hosting sites out there. What is web hosting? This is where a service allows organizations or individuals to post a website onto the internet!
3. Once you are on the Blue Host website, you will be prompted what to do: 1. Choose your domain (example, http://www.homeschoolingindetroit.com) It will let you know if the name is available. 2. Click the WordPress Install 3. Account sign up. From there you choose which package you would like to take advantage of. You can start as low as $3.95 a month. Awesome, right? Not even breaking the bank!
4. From there you will receive your info to get started and you will be on your way into the blogosphere. 🙂 Be advised…blogging is addicting! Haha! It really is, especially when you start growing your traffic.

Your blog post titles should be direct and short pertaining to what your content is about. For example, How-To’s are catchy like “How To Apply Mascara” just to give you an idea. The blog post body should contain some keywords from the title maybe just a few times in the post which is beneficial for search engines like that of Pinterest!

After you publish your first live blog post, now it’s time to start getting it noticed. Be sure to share with all your personal social media networks to let them know you started a blog. I’m sure they will be happy to follow you.

If you really want to take it up a notch, create blog name profiles for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. This way you can really gain credibility and followers as well. I highly recommend signing up for Pinterest and claiming your website as a business to take advantage of analytics (who is following your site).

Creating top rich content and designing your own banner images will bring you more blog traffic, especially if you obtain the Pin It button to include into your posts. If you read the post at the link (Health Tips for Sensitive Skin) above, you may have seen a banner image with text. That was all made on Canva. So fun! The amount of impressions of the pin is definitely impressive, but it did get only 21 clicks to the website. Still good! The next goal is to turn impressions into actual clicks into the blog post. Just a little fun info for you there.
