#BCBS of Michigan Kicks-Off Global Employee Health& Fitness Month with Lunchtime Walk at the Detroit Riverfront 4/28
What: Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan employees, executive staff and members of the United Auto Workers (UAW) and Active BLUE employee resource network will add 30 minutes to their normal lunch hour to celebrate Blue Cross’ annual Walk at Lunch Day on Friday, April 28. The event serves as a kick-off to Global Employee Health & Fitness Month, which takes place every May and highlights the benefits of a healthy workplace. When healthy habits are integrated into job culture, it results in higher productivity, improved morale, lower health care costs and higher employee retention.
Employees spend over a third of each day and about half their waking hours at work. While there’s a tendency to focus on health outside the office, everyone should be conscious of their physical and mental well-being throughout the workday. Studies have shown that individuals who sit for more than six hours a day have a 40 percent higher risk of death in a 15-year span than those who sit for less than three hours each day.
When: Friday, April 28 at 12:00 p.m.
Brief opening remarks will be made by the following Detroit Champions:
- Tina Gates, president, amalgamated United Auto Works Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, local 1781
- Carlton L. King, president, amalgamated United Auto Works Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, local 2500
